“Leakage” is a representation of the “womb” using a cotton-constructed form, with needles inserted on either side. Inside the piece, a bag filled with colored liquid is placed, which, within a limited time frame (three to four hours), leaks into the lower compartment of the piece, a glass container filled with cotton. Due to the nature of the cotton, the colored liquid gradually permeates the entire womb form, altering the overall color of the structure and disintegrating its original shape. Given that the “womb” is the strongest muscle in a woman’s body physiologically, the deformation caused by the adopted mechanism in the piece critically refers to the fragility and sensitivity of this organ and, more broadly, the female body. The needles employed in the piece, in addition to conveying a threatening aspect, also evoke the “needle charm.” This type of charm is used in various regions within traditional societies to predict the number and gender of children. Moreover, inserting needles into the womb also recalls the amniocentesis procedure performed on pregnant women. During this procedure, the protective fluid surrounding the fetus in the womb is extracted with a needle to examine potential chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus.
